Who Will I Become Foundation
Helping Young People See Beyond Their Current Circumstances
The Who Will I Become Foundation was created around one powerful question: How can a child work toward a future they have never been shown?
For many young people, especially those growing up in communities affected by poverty and limited economic opportunity, the possibilities they see around them can shape what they believe is available to them. When legitimate career paths, entrepreneurship, skilled trades, financial education, and professional opportunities feel distant or invisible, risky alternatives can appear more realistic.
We exist to help change that.
Our mission is to help prevent children and young adults from entering the criminal justice system because of financial hardship, limited opportunities, lack of career exposure, or the belief that crime is the only way to achieve financial success.
We serve young people ages 6 to 25, with a focus on children, young adults, and families in underserved communities. Through exposure, education, mentorship, financial literacy, life skills, entrepreneurship, and real-world experiences, we want participants to understand that their circumstances today do not have to determine their future.
We believe prevention cannot happen through conversation alone. Young people need more than warnings about what not to do. They need opportunities to discover what they can do.
They need to meet people who have created meaningful careers and businesses. They need to see workplaces they may never have entered before. They need to learn how money works. They need opportunities to discover their own strengths. They need adults who can encourage them, challenge them, and show them that success can take many different forms
"If we want children to choose a different future, we have to show them that a different future is possible."
We envision communities where young people grow up knowing that they have options. We want children to be able to:
Name careers they did not previously know existed
Understand legitimate ways to build income and financial security
Discover their personal strengths and unique potential
Develop practical life skills for daily independence
Build relationships with adults who can help guide them
Have something meaningful and purposeful to work toward
Six principles that shape everything we do, every program we run, and every young person we serve.
01 — Value
Possibility
Every young person deserves the opportunity to discover a future larger than what they can currently see.
02 — Value
Prevention
We believe meaningful opportunities and early intervention can help young people make healthier decisions before risky behaviors become established patterns.
03 — Value
Exposure
Seeing careers, businesses, workplaces, skilled trades, entrepreneurs, and professionals firsthand can transform an abstract idea into something a child can imagine for themselves.
04 — Value
Practical Knowledge
Inspiration matters, but young people also need usable skills related to money, communication, responsibility, problem-solving, and independence.
05 — Value
Positive Relationships
Mentors and role models can expand a young person's understanding of what is possible and help them navigate the path toward it.
06 — Value
Purpose
Young people should have opportunities to identify their strengths, interests, talents, and goals so they can begin answering the question: Who will I become?
Imani Kay created the Who Will I Become Foundation to help children see beyond the limited possibilities they may know today. Through mentorship, exposure, education, and opportunity, the foundation exists to help young people believe they can become anything they dream, imagine, and work toward.
